Welcome to the Office of
Laura A. Jones, Ph.D.
Licensed Psychologist
Laura A. Jones, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist with a doctoral degree in clinical-child psychology. Dr. Jones has been providing mental health treatment and evaluation to children, adolescents, and families in Alaska for over 30 years.
Treatment Philosophy
Dr. Jones believes that children and adolescents deserve to feel safe, happy, and actively engaged with the world. Unfortunately, many children and youth face overwhelming challenges that interfere with their coping abilities. When mental health issues create difficult challenges, psychotherapy can be very effective in helping families find solutions to these challenges so that all family members can live happier and more fulfilling lives.
Services Offered
Individual Psychotherapy
Individual psychotherapy can be an effective and engaging therapy style for both children and adolescents. Young children often respond best to individual play therapy, where they have the opportunity to explore their feelings, learn about relationships and develop new coping skills. Older children and adolescents often respond to talking directly with their therapist in a safe, confidential relationship in which they can explore the mental health challenges that they need help in addressing
Family Therapy and Parent Consultations
Parenting presents many complex challenges, particularly in our rapidly changing world. Many parents seek help in meeting these challenges. For some families, working together in family therapy sessions is the most effective means of addressing the challenges that the family members are facing. In other families, parents seek opportunities to consult directly with a psychologist to find strategies for addressing the challenges that they or their children encounter. Dr. Jones works with parents to select the form or forms of treatment that would be most appropriate for the types of mental or behavioral health challenges their family members are experiencing.
Evaluations
Dr. Jones provides psychological evaluations for children and adolescents ages birth through 16 years. She can evaluate mental health disorders, behavioral difficulties, developmental disorders and educational difficulties. With appropriate referrals, Dr. Jones also provides specialized forensic evaluations for children in complex legal situations.
